Wire Jewelry Making

Question: Beading...or wire and chain jewelry making question... please help?

i am trying to make a bead and chain overdress for a senior thesis fashion show. I am trying to find someone who is experienced in working with wire and chain in jewelry making who might be able to give me some advice if i were to explain the project to them...it is very unique...and if anyone has any suggestions or knows any nice friendly jewelry teachers in the new york area it would help me a lot.

Answer: I've worked with metals for decades (also drafting clothing patterns ....), and beading for several years.

If you want to send me some sketches or whatever, I'll try to give you some useful ideas. I'm in northern British Columbia, thousands of miles from New York, so can't give hand-on help, but I'll do what I can.

You may want to look at the ads in 'Bust' magazine. There are so many interesting and innovative jewellers in NY. (What an opportunity!)

Sounds like you've got an interesting project going!

P.S. Just occurred to me a few hours later that magazines and books are other fertile resources. There is such a range, so many specializations. For example, there is a magazine called 'Simply Wireworking'.

There are websites too. The one belonging to 'Beadwork' magazine features both beading and beadworking.

Enjoy!

Question: Where is the best place online to get fimo?

I'm thinking of starting an online shop on eBay because I love making things, jewelry in particular, I'm very creative and I love selling stuff on eBay. I see items on eBay all the time that I would love to be able to make, but I don't know where they get the fimo and the rest of the materials so cheap, because the items aren't that expensive.
Here's an example of the stuff I'm talking about:http://shop.ebay.co.uk/dolly-mixed-up/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340

Do you know somewhere online, stores wouldn't be really much use cos I'm in Scotland, that I could get the materials to make jewelry like this?

Thanks :D

Answer: Before you get on e-bay and decide to start selling things, one do your home work for supplies, etc, check out the selling ratio on e-bay. Don't expect others to do your research for you! Remember also you have to be 100% honest and up front and replace broken items at your cost so that that into consideration, it is not just oh I will sell jewelry on e-bay then go make some then find your in over your head. Bad reputation will ruin your business on e-bay. Also consider where your located and where your going to sell, shipping to the United States or Canada can be expensive. Jewelry makers are a dime a dozen so you have to make some really interesting and one of a kind items. So now go do your home work and good luck.

Question: Starting a beaded Jewelry Business and need a catchy classy name!?

I will be selling beaded necklaces, earings, bracelets and eventually I would like to make windchimes, pendants, and lamp shades.....or where ever beading may take me. So I want the name to have the word bead in it but not be specific to jewelry. I have thought of BeadWorks but I am at a mental block beyond that. I have read all the webpages and articles on how to come up w/your business and how to register the name and I'm still having a mental block....HELP! :)

Answer: How about

If you don't like these, maybe one will inspire you to come up with the right one! Good luck.
