Question: A Level project on Natural Form - Development ideas?

Well i've just started AS level art, and we have been given the project title natural form. Now, I'm the kind of artist that is into the whole street art, banksy pop art thing, (heres a link of what i've done recently - http://www.flickr.com/photos/37981696@N05/3733033482/) and this project really doesn't float my boat. My teacher is making us all draw flowers and shells and things, and it is so boring, it has no meaning to it like the street art stuff. Anyway, do you think animals count as natural form, I was thinking of using my dog lol. And i thought i might do some bold flower paintings, like the ones spread across 3 canvases, and then do jewellery designing and making, because that kind of contrasts natural and man-made, if i was to do like a ring with a flower. Is that a good start, and other exciting ideas?! Thanks a lot =]

Answer: Natural form has been an A level topic for donkeys years. Usually, they are looking for sea shells, bark, flowers, bugs etc.

However, there is always another option. You like urban art. So the trick is trying to re-define what is natural form in an urban setting and defending your argument.

Typically, the examiners will be wanting you to make some sort of statement or to express an emotion/feeling (they like that touchy feely stuff), rather than just a good representation.

At the end of the day, this is your work. Talk to your tutor, but stick to your values. If urban floats your boat, try and find the third option that will answer the brief within your framework.

Question: jewelry making classes?

I currently make jewelry with beads and other materials but am very interested in learning how to solder, set stones, and do more metal smithing. I live in wisconsin, milwaukee to be exact and don't know where to find classes or places to buy supplies and learn. Can anyone help me? PLEASE!!!!

Answer: contact your local college and ask if has courses in. Or, a jeweler.. There are some places they might mentor you.. ASK around, you never know..
there are books in libraries and book stores that can sometimes give you suggestions too. Many have been do it yourself taught..
