Wire For Jewelry Making

wire for jewelry making
Question: What is the best wire to use in making jewelry that is strong and can jewelry cleaner break down wire fibers?

I need wire that is durable yet nice to work with. I want something that will make my pieces last for years. My clients wear them every day many don't ever take them off. I make 'Mommy Bracelets'. My beads are mostly light. There can be up to 5 strands in a bracelets. Sterling silver letter beads, Swarovski crystals and small light sterling silver beads.

Answer: I've designed jewelry for years and I only use soft flex products. I've had beadalon break on me a couple of times.

Jewelry Making Turquoise

Question: how do i make raw turquoise into the turquoise you see in jewelry?

my mom was cleaning out our storige space and she found four baseball size turquoise rocks and she said i could do whatever i wanted with them so... i wanted do make them look cool and maybe sell two or three of them.

Answer: You cannot make jewelry with them without the proper equipment. The pieces would need to be sawed into smaller sizes and cut into rough shapes.

Then they would need to be "tumbled" to smooth them out, which is another piece of equipment, then you would need to have polishing equipment to finish the stone. You would be better off contacting a person (lapidary) who finishes gems and ask if they will trade you out some finished stones for some of your rough turquoise. There are gem and mineral clubs all over and there are many lapidaries in the US and other countries.
