Question: Small business ideas for American College Student w/ minimal investment?

I am a college student in the US, and is looking for another point of view/advice for small business ideas that requires minimal investment. In the past I purchased costume jewelry from India, but the market is now saturated with cheap jewelry coming from china that making a profit is not possible. What other products that are cheap in india that you think might sell well in the US or what cheap US products are in demand in India? Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance.

(Also, I am not looking to get rich, just to support myself while I'm in school. I am not interested in blogging, survey, mlm, home typing/data entry jobs, as those are scams. Please be respectfull.)

Answer: Hey; you are a student; as well as a small time enterpreneur.

You have two choices;

a) either to buy stuff with your own money and sell it; or

b) to make arragements and tie up with some local guy / company; first for allowing you to identify and source goods of his / general interest from India; and thereafter for giving some sort of assurance or gaurentee ( preferably through banks and drafts ).through yourself to the manufacturers/ sellers / and exporters here in India.

There are many goods which can be marketed there; especially in the lines of garments, leather goods and accessories, footwears, handlooms, handicrafts, etc; and others.

The most important part however is not goods; but your tie up and association with those locals there who can give assurance or gaurentee ( preferably through banks and drafts ).as said above.

If you can arrange, manage, drive and operate such local guy / company there; then I can arrange to identify, source, and export goods and manufacturers from here on your behalf; with commissions etc for both of us.

Kindly reply if you feel my proposal interests you. I am based in Delhi.

Regarding chinese products; they shall always be there because they are competetion;.

You have to strengthen your self in the face of competetion; which you can do only if you have comitted and dedicated partnerships / associations in both places; which is what I am offering you from my side and from people here of interest here in Delhi. Think over it.

Question: What is the best website to buy card stock and other specialty papers?

Hi,
I recently started a small home Jewelry Business, and I need to purchase some specialty paper for the following purposes:

1. Making earring cards to hang earrings from.
2. Making small "inserts" to go w/ jewelry (about 1.5x1 inch) describing the gems used in the pieces.

Ideally I would like the paper to be printable at least on an inkjet printer. I have looked around online extensively, but have not really been able to find what I am looking for at a reasonable price. I don't just want plain card stock, I would rather have something a little fancier with texture, etc. Also, I am looking for solid colors (blues mainly).

Anybody know a good website to look for this type of product and/or a site that has instructions for making your own jewelry tags and other 'marketing' materials? Thank you in advance for your time!

Answer: You can try Red Stamp Cards, they are giving away 75% discount.

Question: What is the best hammer for working with silver, brass and copper? ?

I would like to try working with metal, particularly silver to make jewellery, and want to know what is the best hammer to get. I have an ordinary ball pein (or peen) hammer, would I be able to use that, or is a jewelers ball pein hammer different? What about a chasing hammer, leather/ raw hide hammer or a nylon hammer? What are they best used for?
I would like to try making rings, charms, earrings etc. I will be working with sheet metal, brass, copper and silver (sterling and nickle), and the same metals in wire. I am an extreme beginner, trying out both soldering and cold connected
All and any advice re metal work is greatly appreciated!

Answer: Hmmm, I would start off with the hammer you have, and see how it goes, then maybe go to a fine metal working forum and see what they advise.
