Question: I'm 14 and I want to start a Jewelry Business from my home. What are the legal ramifications?

I'm kind of lost as to if I need a business license or not. I would advertise of course by business cards, classified ad, fliers, phone calls, going to arts and crafts fairs and such. I'm just wondering about how I can do this legally.

You will need a business license and tax ID if you start your own business. You will need to collect sales tax in your state (if this applies). Being this sounds like solely from home/internet check with your city or county on what is needed for a home business. You need to be clear this is not a consultant based business but a sole proprietorship, You will also need to check with your state to see if your chosen business name is available for use to prevent trademark or copyright infringement. Being jewelry you will also need to be careful of lead regulations and possible lead testing. If any of your pieces will be intended for the use of anyone 12 and under, there are child product safety laws to follow. Question: How can I make a waterproof vessel/boat/wetsuit type thing from these materials? (for a project)?

Answer: wrap yourself in the cloth/fabric first then in the leather (or make clothes with the leather lined with cloth and fabric) cover any seams/ holes with the oil based paint to prevent water from getting in (oil based paint does not dissolve easily in water) then empty the cleaning supplies/chemicals from their plastic bottles and use the string to tie them together, the air filled bottles will help to keep you floating at the surface.
