Jewelry Business Tips

Question: I'm going to create a website to sell my handmade jewelry, should I...?
should I also sell beads from the site? Or do you think that someone looking for already made jewelry is not looking for beads? Also if anyone already runs their own small craft-based business and has any tips for me I'd love it! Thank you!
Would having the supplies to make take away the focus of the site from the jewelry?
Answer: Congrats on the decision to create your own website! After you have created your site, they are no more work than listing on other sites that sell for you and you will not be in direct, on site competition with others.
Jewelry is a heavily saturated market be it hand made or manufactured. I loved the idea of kits! Supplies are a great way to direct the focus to your own products. You can always direct a shopper to the product "these beads were used to make".
Free ads are the best way to promote your site. Stay organized and spend a few hours each week on promotions and you will find yourself making sales in a short time. Remember, it takes about a year to get search engine recognition. Just consider it a worthwhile investment into yourself and your business.
Happy sales and good luck!

Question: Is is ok to sell stuff at your work?
I work with a bunch of women and they're always trying to get me to buy makeup, candles, jewelry, tupperware, knives, candy, cookie dough, etc. at work. I always try to buy from their kids fundraisers b/c I feel like it's a good cause, but there is a new invitation in my mailbox everyday, especially now that it's the holidays. The worse part is that some of them turn their noses up at me now b/c I don't come to their parties after work or on the weekends.
What do you think? Is it ok to run a "home based business" from your place of business???
Answer: no, it is not appropriate to run a "home based business" from your place of work.....if these ladies were to mention on their lunch hour that they were part time makeup salesman or whatever that would be one thing (and even then, if it comes up in a conversation fine-but then they should drop it....and take a cue from you whether your interested or not)....but to bombard your mailbox...i don't know, but i think if i were the boss i would be kinda irritated that all my employees were wasting time on the clock looking at catalogs....
....and as for kids fundraisers....personally i don't think you should buy stuff for a school fundraiser unless the child himself asks you.....i think it is so ridiculous the way parents take their kids fundraisers to work....the kid is suppposed to be doing it!!
